Arhtritis: Osteoarthritis is the commonest type of arthritis. It can cause painful, stiff and creaky joints. It is most common in weight bearing joints such as knees and hips and also in the spine. It also affects the hands and big toes. There are a number of treatment options including injections with steroids which a rheumatologist can administer.

There are other types of arthritis which can cause inflammation of the joints. Rheumatoid arthritis is the commonest type of inflammatory arthritis. It occurs due to disturbances in the immune system. Other types of inflammatory arthritis include psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and reactive arthritis. Arthritis can also occur due to deposition of crystals such as urate in gout. There are different types of medical treatments available for these conditions.
